A grab bucket is matched to a material, not to a crane. Density decides the bucket volume, the material's behavior decides the jaw style, and your crane decides the drive type. Work through the checklist below and the grab that arrives will bite properly on the first cycle.

| # | What we need | Detail | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Material & density | coal, grain, sand, scrap, sludge... + t/m³ | Volume × density must match the crane's capacity |
| 2 | Material shape & size | fine / lump / long pieces | Determines jaw style and closing force |
| 3 | Drive type | mechanical (rope) / electric motor / electro-hydraulic | Depends on your crane's hoists and controls — see below |
| 4 | Rated load & volume | t and/or m³ | Grab + material together must fit the crane rating |
| 5 | Environment | corrosive / explosive / wet / hot | Drives material choice, coatings and explosion-proof builds |
| 6 | Size & space limits | hatch openings, hopper sizes, headroom | The grab must fit where it works, open and closed |
| 7 | Connection | hook / quick coupler / integrated | Defines suspension and any adapter needed |
| 8 | Extras & preferences | remote control, automation, component brands, certificates, timeline | Quoted precisely instead of assumed |
Mechanical (rope) grabs use the crane's own hoist ropes — no power to the grab, simple and robust, but they need a suitable double-drum hoist. Electro-hydraulic grabs carry their own power pack and work from any single-hook crane, opening and closing independently — the usual choice when retrofitting a grab onto an existing crane. Motor grabs suit dedicated, high-cycle duty. If you're specifying the crane and grab together, say so — a purpose-built grab overhead crane is usually more efficient than a general crane plus attachment.
Standard models run roughly 1–10 t rated load, with custom builds outside that range per project.
Most standard cranes take a grab via hook or quick coupler; send your crane's capacity, hook type and (for rope grabs) hoist drum configuration and we'll confirm compatibility before you order.
Typical lead time is 4–6 weeks depending on customization; warranty is 12 months covering manufacturing defects and faulty components. CE certification and compliance documentation ship with the grab.
Routine greasing of pins and moving parts plus wear inspection of jaw edges and (for hydraulic types) hoses and seals — minutes per shift, not hours.
