Project Background and Requirements
The client processes steel: plate and section are cut, fabricated and moved across a long workshop, and material spends most of its time in the air between workstations rather than sitting on the floor. That pattern is what drives the specification. Capacity is modest at 5 tonnes, because a single plate or bundle is not especially heavy; span is large, because the crane has to reach across the full working width of the bay; and there are four of them, because several workstations need coverage at the same time without cranes queuing behind each other.
Four identical cranes, one building

06Installation sequenced with the building
The cranes went in while the steel hall was still being finished, lifted onto their runways by mobile crane through the open structure. Once a building of this type is clad there is no way to introduce a nineteen-metre girder, so crane and building programmes had to be planned against each other.
