How often should I replace brake pads on my overhead craneOverhead crane brake pads play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of your crane. It’s essential to replace them when they reach 2mm of wear or 50% of their original thickness. The replacement process involves several critical steps to guarantee optimal performance and safety.
Begin by disconnecting the crane from its power source and following lockout/tagout procedures. Access the brake assembly and loosen the brake screws, releasing the tension on the central spring. Open the brake pad holders by turning the middle limit screw, remove the old pads, and install the new ones. Adjust the tension of the screws and spring, ensuring they are neither too loose nor too tight.
Once the brake pad replacement is complete, inspect the brake assembly for any signs of wear or damage, and reassemble it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Remove the lockout/tagout devices, restore power to the crane, and test the braking system to confirm its proper function. Regular maintenance and adherence to manufacturer guidelines are crucial for maintaining a safe working environment and prolonging the life of your overhead crane.
